Love, love, love this site. Or maybe its better to refer to it as a company? Or perhaps a program? Whatever you call it, once you get into this you will be hooked. Trust me. It is ingenius.
So, I have to admit that I am still a beginner. I have only dabbled, but let me tell you what is so awesome about thredUp! First of all, the concept is brilliant. They make listing clothes SO easy. Here is a break down of what happens when you sign up (which is FREE, by the way). Very simply put, there are two sides to this service. Obviously, you can pick a box of clothes that you like, pay the $5 plus shipping and be able to clothe your fast-growing children for very little money. The flip side is equally appealing, you can prepare a box of items that no longer fit your child, list it, and then when someone picks your box, you send it for FREE!
Here is the step-by-step version: PICK - Browse boxes listed in the thredUP community and select one you'd like to receive. (Oh, and they totally encourage you to get your friends on thredUP so you can just pick their boxes - even if they live across the country!) Great benefit for us super busy moms - if you're too busy, you can tell them your clothing preferences and the experts at thredUP can choose a box for you! PAY - Once you've picked your box, all you pay is $5 plus shipping ($10.95 - because these are all medium flat rate boxes) to have it delivered. PREPARE - As part of this process, you are REQUIRED (this is a swap after all!, but that is one of my favorite things about thredUp - it causes you to be accountable to also purging instead of only receiving - brilliant!) to list a box of clothes that your child no longer wears. We'll ask for basic details such as types of clothing, number of items, colors, brands, season and sizes. Don't worry, when you sign up, thredUp will have automatically mailed you the empty boxes (I rec'd about 5, I think) for your gently used clothes. SEND - When someone picks your box, thredUP will alert you and ask you to send this box. It is free to send boxes on thredUP because the recipient pays the shipping. You'll be able to print the shipping label and schedule the pickup all in one click. Leave it by your mailbox - and you have completed your cycle!! Would you rather drop it off at the Post Office? No problem! Just cancel the pickup and leave a note for your postal carrier. As soon as your box is tracked by the USPS, you will see your box status has been changed to "shipped" in your thredUP closet. Isn't that the coolest?!?
I have, thus far, gotten a box of clothing for both my 9 year old daughter and my 11 year old son. My daughter's box included items that are sure to be her favorites, including an Aeropostle shirt, several pair of skinny jeans, and a few other shirts and tanks. My son's box had a great pair of jeans, a great pair of slacks and two short sleeve collared shirts - which he will be able to wear to his private school in the fall - yippee! and other items like pajamas and t-shirts. For both boxes, my investment was $31.90 and that brought the clothes right to my door!
If you try it, please let me know what you think!!
